Musgrave earned letters in football (1946-49), men’s basketball (1946-50), and track (1947) for the Braves
As a four year member of the football team, Musgrave helped lead the Braves 25-13-2 playing for head coaches Wallace Forsberg and Dick Peters. He was part of the 1947 and 1948 Kansas Conference Championship teams. Musgrave served as team co-captain his senior season.
On the basketball court, Musgrave led the Braves to a record of 50-28. He was part of three Kansas Conference Championships and two Kansas NAIA Playoff appearances. Musgrave earned Second Team All-KS Conference honors in 1947-48 and he was an Honorable Mention All-KS Conference performer in 1949-50. Musgrave was named team captain as a senior.
After graduating from Ottawa University, Musgrave dedicated his professional life to education serving as a teacher and coach, elementary principal, high school principal, superintendent, and university professor.
