Robert Knight
Robert F. Knight proved to be one of the best “steals” from KU for OU. He had a full-ride scholarship to KU, but coach Bill Frear wanted him to play basketball at Ottawa University and got him. Not only was Knight a star in track and basketball, but he also attained all-conference status as a quarterback during his junior and senior years after never playing football until going out for the sport two years into college.

Knight was a four-year letterman in basketball and track and lettered two years in football. He was a three-time all-conference selection in basketball and was All-District 10 twice. Knight ranks as the 13th leading scorer in OU history with 1,230 points, but perhaps was better known for his assist abilities.

As a track star, Knight placed third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles at the national NAIA meet in San Diego, California. He was a conference champion in the half-mile and held the school record in that distance for many years.
