Teacher Education Program - Phoenix, Arizona Campus

The Teacher Professional Education Program (PEP) at Ottawa University is designed for certified elementary and secondary educators interested in career growth. All courses are offered for upper division/graduate level credit. These credits may be used for professional development, certificate renewal, and salary increments, and Master's programs, including Ottawa University's Master of Arts in Education.

Bilingual Education Endorsement K-12

Requirements
  • A valid Arizona elementary, secondary, special education, or vocational certificate.
  • Verification of proficiency in a language other than English.
  • 21 semester credit hours of coursework including ESL practicum or 18 hours and 2 years of teaching ESL students.
  • Four endorsement courses, including methods, are prerequisites to enroll in the practicum.

Requirements

Computer Science Endorsement

Requirements

  • A valid Arizona elementary, secondary or special education certificate.
  • At least one course in the methods of teaching the subject at the elementary level and at the secondary level.

Only one of the following

  • 24 semester credit hours of courses in subject area; or
  • A passing test score on the subject area portion of the Arizona
  • Educator Proficiency Assessment, if an assessment has been adopted by the board.

Middle School Endorsements, Grades 5-9

Requirements

  • A valid Arizona elementary, secondary or special education certificate.
  • 6 semester credit hours of middle grade education.
  • Two years teaching middle school can be substituted for EDU 66850 Middle School Practicum.

Structured English Immersion (SEI) K-12

After August 31, 2006, an SEI, ESL, or Bilingual Endorsement is required of all certified classroom teachers, supervisors, principals, and superintendents. The provisional SEI endorsement is valid for three years and is not renewable.

Provisional Requirements: (SEI) - Certification on or before August 31, 2006 must take

  • EDU 56406 - Structured English Immersion I for ELL (SEI I- 15 hrs)

Full Endorsement Requirements: (SEI) - Certification on or before August 31, 2006 must take both:

  • EDU 56406 - Structured English Immersion I for ELL (SEI I - 15hrs)
  • EDU 56407 - Structured English Immersion II for ELL (SEI II - 45 hrs)

Certification after August 31, 2006 must take both

  • EDU 66506 - Structured English Immersion III for ELL (SEI III - 45 hrs) This course is the Augmented (SEI I) for those with Certification after August 31, 2006.
  • EDU 56407 - Structured English Immersion II for ELL (SEI II -45hrs)

Special Subject Area Endorsement: Art, Music and Physical Education

All requirements for the Special Subject Area Endorsement must be met.
  • A valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (plastic) issued by the Arizona Department of Safety.
  • A valid Arizona Elementary, Secondary or Special Education Certificate.
  • One course in the methods of teaching the subject at the elementary level.
  • One course in the methods of teaching the subject at the secondary level.
Option A or B
  • A: 30 semester credit hours of courses in the subject area, OR
  • B: A passing score in the subject area portion of the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment, if an assessment as been adopted by the Board.
